Interactive file history (annotation)
Maybe inspired by Time Lapse View from Perforce:

Done! New “time lapse” view. http://codicesoftware.blogspot.com/2013/12/release-5044519-is-out.html

I would agree with robl.
It would also be great if you could scrub the timelapse on a file in the annotate view and have it stick with the particular line selected. -

I'm afraid I don't find this very easy to use. eg. I have a file with 17 change sets in the history. The corresponding 2d version tree contains hundreds of revisions (mostly 'U') and many branches and merge lines. Most of these are completely unrelated to the file in question (other people rebasing their branches).
Could you:
1) add a filter to just show the relationship between (the 17) file revisions?
2) when selecting a different revision, could the diff view stay in the same position to make it easier to track the evolution of a line of code?
3) add a similar embedded diff/file view to the history table that keeps the same lines visible when selecting different changesets?
