I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Possibility to split changesets

    Problem:
Sometimes you checkin changes that aren't necessarily corelated. Well, yes they belong to the same fix, but you could easily revert one change without the other.
When people don't have the habbit to checkin every now and then, they need to checkin when they're done. Most of the time, this checkin contains more than one change.

In the unexpected event of a new bug, that was checkedin with these changes, it's hard to revert that one change that's causing the issue.

    Suggested solution:
This problem could be solved if there was a way to split existing changesets into new…

    • Advanced LDAP Support

Plastic currently only supports basic LDAP integration.

In real-world scenarios, things aren't as clear cut and simple.
I propose extending LDAP support in the following ways:

      1. Support secure LDAP (LDAPs). Including self-signed certificates on the LDAPs server.
      2. Ability to specify Root DN.
      3. Ability to specify User search Base.
      4. Ability to specify User search filter (ie, something like sAMAccountName={0}).
      5. Ability to Specify Group Search Base.
      6. Ability to Specify Group Search Filter ((& (cn={0}) (objectclass=group) ))
      7. Group Membership definitions (can optimize with memberOf property).
      8. Configurable Local Caching of credentials, TTL etc ....

      • Please make all release notes findable on your website

Many times I find that the most complete, or the ONLY, documentation on some features in Plastic SCM can be found in the release notes. (Example: the "multi-screen diff" feature is mentioned but nowhere explained.)

Additionally, on forums and uservoices etc a specific release note may be mentioned for reference.

Unfortunately, it seems that many of the in-between release notes disappear from the web after a while, or at least they are very hard to find.

With all this in mind, please make it easy to find every Plastic SCM release note ever issued! ;)

Something simple that any idiot could install on a desktop connected to the internet with storage on it. Something like gluon for dedicated plastic scm machines?

            • Add Gluon support for Linux

Our entire team are going Linux only for development since Epic now support it with Unreal 4, so support for Gluon on Linux would be wonderful for us.

              • Make regular plastic client 'Pending Changes' checkboxes more like Gluon

The current checkboxes in the regular plastic client are borderline unusable from both a usability and visual feedback perspective.

By contrast, the Gluon client hits the mark with its checkboxes. It has much larger checkbox size that are far easier to click, and checkboxes that are coloured in when checked as opposed to a tiny black tick mark that is practically impossible to see when dealing with a larger changeset (I've lost count now the number of times I've checked in files I didn't intend to include, simply because the client decided to check them automatically and I couldn't tell).

                • Remember shown position in diff view while Auto Refresh Pending Changelist Option is checked

If I scroll in the diff view and switch to another application for some reason and if I switch back to the pending changes view then the diff view is also refreshed with the effect I don't see the code anymore that I wanted to see.

                  • Add an email notification system to users in Plastic Cloud

It would be great if whenever actions are done in Plastic Cloud that all pertaining partys are automatically emailed (with a configuration for this).

Example, I create a code review for user A,B,C. Lookup user A,B,C's email and shoot them a notice of the code review. This is a standard feature for other cloud base repos that is super useful. Currently i have to either rely on my teammates telling me they submitted code reviews or have each of them integrate an app into their setup. It would be nice to have a one stop shop for this. : )

                      • Add ways to disable Diff auto-updating on changeset

The new "multi-screen diff" in Plastic 6.0 is excellent. It was introduced in 6.0.16.884; if you have the Plastic SCM main window open on part of your screen, and open one diff window on another part of your screen, then the diff window's contents will change when you move around in the Branch Explorer.

                        (Slightly related uservoice: https://plasticscm.uservoice.com/forums/15467-general/suggestions/15615156-show-diffs-in-branch-explorer-and-changesets-views )

However, this has a few flaws related to cases where you don't want the "Diff changeset" window to change. To stop the Diff from updating when you click a changeset, you need more than one Diff window open. This is OK…

                        • "Cherry pick" to

Just like the "advanced merge to", allow the user to cherry pick to any branch.

This allow the user to avoid switching to the branch he want to cherry pick to, which can be very time consuming (reimporting workspace in a game engine for exemple).

                          • It would be great to support gitflow in gmaster

We use Source Tree today and would love to switch over to using gmaster full time. Having giflow built in would make that easier

                            See:
                            https://blog.sourcetreeapp.com/2012/08/01/smart-branching-with-sourcetree-and-git-flow/

Keep up the great work on the tool!

                            • Collapse all/open all tree-views with Alt-click

The tree view in Pending Changes gives a much better overview/visual structure to the things that were modified. However, per default everything is always collapsed. So for each new change one needs to click-open every single hierarchy level by hand, to reach the assets that were actually changed...

All other tree views (Items, Branches, ...) are affected similarly, and would greatly benefit from such a hotkey.

I suggest to use Alt-click, as for example, Unity uses that same method to selectively and recursively collapse/open subtrees.

                                  • load pending changes UI window from plastic.exe

Ability to call the plastic.exe with --pending_changes to load up the pending changes UI (the same one used in windows shell extension). this will enable some easy integrations with other IDEs like VSCode and others that allow mapping a shortcut key to a command.

I'd expect to map a command in VS Code to the command "plastic.exe --pending_changes --workspace "e:\projects\my-vscode-project" and it would show me everything changed within that wrkspace and allow me to check the changes in.

                                    • Make all Branch Explorer colors customizable

In Branch Explorer, the alternating date-background color can be changed via a variable in a .conf file, but none of the other color schemes.

There is also the Themes feature in Preferences, but those seem to leave the Branch Explorer unaltered (even leaving it light for the dark themes)!

What we do have is the ability to color branches by attribute (conditional format) and to color changesets by user/replication-source. (But sadly, the color by replication source feature is currently broken.)

My request is to expose all the border, fill, background, selection and font colors to the user, either via .conf…

                                        • Add a branch weight for layouting in branch explorer

I like to have my branches ordered bottom-up as they are closest to release. So my issue branches are below the trunk which is below release candidates and hotfix branches.

I do this manually right now. So I have two lines für release/hotfix branches then the trunk and then everything else.
This is fine as long as there are only 2 branches in the upper two lines. But sometimes there are more (especially when 'older' branches are updated with new data. Then they overlap.

                                          My suggestion:
Add a weight property to branches (maybe via conditional rules) and order the branches…
